A landmark RMIT study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that Oli6 Stage 1 & 2 formulas contain 14 naturally occurring oligosaccharides—five also found in breast milk—which help nourish beneficial gut bacteria and support a healthier digestive environment.
Laboratory-tested and peer-reviewed: the RMIT study examined how the natural oligosaccharides in Oli6 interact with gut bacteria, finding they selectively promoted the growth of beneficial bacteria.
Oli6 Stage 1 & 2 were shown to stimulate the growth of beneficial bifidobacteria, supporting a healthier digestive environment.
Synbiotic in action: the RMIT study found that the naturally occurring oligosaccharides in Oli6 selectively promoted the growth of beneficial Bifidobacteria while limiting the growth of harmful bacteria in laboratory conditions — a dual effect that supports the gut microbiome story behind SynbiOli™.
Lead investigator, Professor Harsharn Gill, said the study — which tested the oligosaccharides’ effects on bacterial cultures — was believed to be the first to reveal the diversity of oligosaccharides in goat’s milk-based infant formula and their similarity to human milk.“Our results show goat milk formula may have strong prebiotic and anti-infection properties, that could protect infants against gastrointestinal infections,” Gill said.
“The study indicates the prebiotic oligosaccharides in goat milk formula are effective at selectively promoting the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut.
“While these laboratory results are promising, further research including clinical trials will help us to confirm these benefits for infants.”
